Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung's public approval rating climbed to 65 percent, a poll showed Thursday, around a month after he took office.
According to Yonhap News Agency, in a National Barometer Survey conducted from Monday to Wednesday, positive assessment of Lee's performance added 3 percentage points from the previous poll conducted two weeks ago, while negative assessment rose 2 percentage points to 23 percent. When asked whether the Lee administration was "on the right track," 64 percent of the respondents replied positively, while 26 percent said it was going in the "wrong direction."
The approval rating for the ruling Democratic Party remained the same at 45 percent, while support for the main opposition People Power Party slipped 1 percentage point to 19 percent. In the same survey, 71 percent said they supported a special counsel's push to arrest former President Yoon Suk Yeol over his failed martial law bid, while 23 percent said they were against it. Earlier in the day, Yoon was arrested for the second time after a Seoul court issued an arrest warrant requested by the special counsel investigating Yoon.
The survey was conducted by pollsters Embrain Public, Kstat Research, Korea Research and Hankook Research on 1,003 people aged 18 and older. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points at a 95 percent confidence level.
