Seoul: CJ Olive Young Corp., the cosmetics distribution arm of South Korea's retail giant CJ Group, has announced a significant 70 percent year-on-year increase in sales through its online global platform for the first half of the year, fueled by strong demand for K-beauty products.
According to Yonhap News Agency, sales on the Olive Young Global Mall, the company's online platform catering to overseas customers, experienced substantial growth, particularly from the United States market. This surge in demand has been instrumental in driving the platform's success, with more than half of its sales attributed to U.S. customers. Additionally, K-beauty products are witnessing growing popularity in Japan and Southeast Asia.
The Olive Young Global Mall has attracted a membership base of 3.35 million overseas customers as of June, showcasing its expanding reach. Despite this growth, the company has not disclosed specific sales figures for the global mall.
In response to the increasing demand from the U.S. market, CJ Olive Young has taken strategic steps to enhance its logistics capabilities. The company recently signed a memorandum of understanding with FedEx to improve logistics within the United States and facilitate cross-border shipping. Furthermore, in February, CJ Olive Young established a U.S. subsidiary, CJ Olive Young USA, in Los Angeles, aiming to strengthen its footprint in the world's largest beauty market. This subsidiary is currently preparing to open Olive Young outlets in the U.S. and provide localized logistics services.
