Bangkok: The chief of the South Korean central bank plans to attend a meeting of top central bankers from the East Asia and Pacific region next week to discuss inflation, digital finance, and other pending issues, his office said Friday. Bank of Korea (BOK) Gov. Rhee Chang-yong is scheduled to depart for Bangkok on Sunday to attend the Executives' Meeting of East Asia and Pacific Central Banks (EMEAP).
According to Yonhap News Agency, the EMEAP, which was founded in 1991, aims to promote monetary cooperation and the exchange of information between the region's 11 central banks, including South Korea, Japan, China, Indonesia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, and New Zealand.
During the upcoming meeting, Rhee plans to discuss geopolitical fragmentation, changing inflation dynamics, and other key issues with his counterparts while reviewing the activities of the organization's working groups.
Rhee will also attend the EMEAP Governors' and Financial Supervisors' Meeting, where he is expected to exchange views on the risks and opportunities of tokenization, as well as on promoting safe and inclusive digital finance, the BOK added.
