Seoul: Ten people have been killed and nine are missing due to heavy rains and landslides that have swept across South Korea over the past four days, the government announced on Sunday.According to Yonhap News Agency, data from the interior ministry and the National Fire Agency, as of 5 a.m. Sunday, highlighted that a significant portion of the casualties-six dead and seven missing-occurred in the southern county of Sancheong. Additional fatalities were reported in Osan, Gyeonggi Province; Seosan, South Chungcheong Province; and Dangjin, South Chungcheong. Among the missing, two have been reported in the southwestern city of Gwangju.Firefighting officials have noted that rescue operations are ongoing in Sancheong, which could potentially alter the current toll. To date, 58 people have been successfully rescued from Sancheong alone.The nation has been battered by torrential rains since Wednesday, with Sancheong receiving an accumulated 793.5 millimeters of rainfall. Neighboring Hapcheon has recorded 699 mm, while Hadong has reported 621.5 mm of rainfall.Authorities have registered 1,920 incidents involving flooded roads, soil erosion, and damaged public facilities. Additionally, 2,234 cases of damage to private property, including buildings and farmland, have been documented.In response to the severe weather, a total of 12,921 people have sought refuge across 14 major cities and provinces. Officials have forecasted more heavy rainfall in the capital area and Gangwon Province through Sunday morning.
