Seoul: High-level trade talks between South Korea and the United States scheduled for later this week have been canceled due to U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's urgent schedule, Seoul's finance ministry said Thursday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the planned "2+2" dialogue was to occur on Friday (local time) in Washington. The meeting was intended to bring together Finance Minister Koo Yun-cheol and Trade Minister Yeo Han-koo from South Korea, alongside U.S. officials including Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.
The cancellation of these discussions marks a significant delay in the bilateral trade negotiations between the two countries, which were expected to address key economic issues and enhance cooperation. The finance ministry has not yet announced a rescheduled date for the talks.
