Orion Corp. Recalls Cham Carp Cakes Over Mold Concerns

Seoul: Orion Corp., a major South Korean confectionery company, announced on Thursday the recall of its Cham Carp Cakes, a popular fish-shaped pie, due to potential mold contamination. The company has taken immediate action by notifying the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and has urged retailers to cease the sale of the affected product.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the recall affects all Cham Carp Cakes units produced before Wednesday. Orion estimates that approximately 1.5 billion won (US$1.1 million) worth of the product has already been distributed in the market. This decision follows the receipt of seven consumer complaints this week regarding potential mold contamination in the product.

Orion's initial assessments suggest that the mold detected is not harmful to human health, but the company has sought further testing from an independent organization to ensure product safety. In a public apology on its website, Orion acknowledged shortcomings in its production line management and quality control systems. The company has pledged to implement necessary measures to enhance its processes and prevent future occurrences of such issues.
