USFK Commander Congratulates South Korea’s New Defense Chief

Seoul: U.S. Forces Korea Commander Gen. Xavier Brunson on Friday congratulated South Korea's new Defense Minister Ahn Gyu-back on his inauguration and called on enhancing their bilateral ties going forward. Ahn took office as the country's first civilian defense chief in 64 years after President Lee Jae Myung approved his appointment earlier in the day.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Gen. Brunson emphasized the importance of the alliance between the Republic of Korea and the United States. He described the ROK-US Alliance as a cornerstone of regional stability, which continues to adapt to meet 21st-century challenges while upholding shared commitments to democracy, security, and prosperity. Brunson expressed anticipation for further strengthening the partnership, enhancing deterrence, and ensuring peace and security on the Korean Peninsula and beyond.

In his inaugural address, Defense Minister Ahn Gyu-back reiterated the significance of the South Korea-U.S. alliance, describing it as a "linchpin" of the nation's security. He committed to bolstering defense cooperation networks based on this crucial alliance, underscoring the shared objectives of both nations in maintaining regional stability.
