Seoul: Rep. Lee Jun-seok, who participated in last month's presidential election, has reclaimed the leadership of the minor conservative party he founded, following his election as the new leader on Sunday. Lee, representing the New Reform Party, secured 25,254 votes, which accounts for 98.22 percent of the total, during the party's national convention held at the National Assembly. Notably, Lee ran unopposed in this leadership race.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the New Reform Party also elected Kim Sung-yeol and two additional members to its Supreme Council. The selection was based on a combined score derived from votes among party members and public opinion polls. The New Reform Party, originally launched by Lee in January of the previous year, positioned itself ahead of the parliamentary election that won him his first Assembly seat.
Lee's recent political journey includes his candidacy in the June 3 presidential election, where he contested against significant opponents such as Lee Jae Myung of the Democratic Party and Kim Moon-soo of the People Power Party, ultimately securing third place.
