Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung on Tuesday invited citizens to attend a ceremony next month symbolizing his appointment by the people.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee announced in a Facebook post that the "People's Appointment Ceremony" is scheduled for August 15 at Gwanghwamun Square in downtown Seoul. The event will take place shortly after the ceremony commemorating the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day.
"It will be an occasion for the people as sovereigns to personally appoint the 21st president, and convey their individual expectations and wishes," Lee stated in his post. He encouraged citizens to join the event.
Lee also shared a link to the official website (www.korea815.go.kr) for individuals interested in attending either ceremony to apply.
The need for this ceremony arises because Lee did not have a formal inauguration. He assumed office immediately after winning the June 3 presidential election, which was held following the ouster of former President Yoon Suk Yeol.
