Seoul: Hanwha Ocean Co. announced on Tuesday that it has successfully secured a significant order worth 353.6 billion-won (US$254 million) to supply two very large crude carriers (VLCCs) to a shipowner based in the Oceania region. The company highlighted that these VLCCs would be equipped with its proprietary fuel-saving system, which is designed to enhance energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions, aligning with the increasingly stringent environmental regulations.
According to Yonhap News Agency, British maritime research firm Clarkson Research has identified Hanwha Ocean as the world's leading builder of VLCCs. The company has delivered 198 out of the 1,015 vessels currently in operation, capturing a substantial 19.5 percent share of the global fleet.
With this latest contract, Hanwha Ocean's total VLCC orders for the year have reached ten, surpassing other global shipbuilders in the number of orders secured. This achievement underscores the company's dominant position in the global shipbuilding industry, particularly in the VLCC segment.
