S. Korea Completes Dismantling Anti-N. Korea Loudspeakers Along Border

Seoul: The South Korean military has completed the removal of loudspeakers used for propaganda broadcasts against North Korea along the heavily fortified border, military officials reported on Wednesday. This initiative marks a significant step in efforts to ease tensions between the two Koreas.

According to Yonhap News Agency, about 20 fixed speakers installed in the front-line areas were dismantled as of Tuesday afternoon. The dismantling process began on Monday, following an order from President Lee Jae Myung nearly two months ago to suspend loudspeaker broadcasts in frontline areas. This decision was part of broader efforts to mend frayed ties with North Korea.

The dismantled speakers are currently stored in military units. This move comes in response to North Korea's suspension of its own noise-blaring campaigns against the South in June. However, military officials noted that North Korea has not yet shown any signs of removing its own loudspeakers along the border areas in response to the South's recent actions.
