Seoul: Conservative activist pastor Jeon Kwang-hoon and six others have been banned from leaving the country amid a probe into allegations of instigating a January courthouse riot related to former President Yoon Suk Yeol, police said Friday. Investigators at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency requested the ban against Jeon in June, which has been approved and is still currently in effect.
According to Yonhap News Agency, other individuals who have also recently been placed under exit bans include YouTube channel operators Shin Hye-sik and Son Sang-dae, as well as conservative group chief Kim Su-yeol. Police suspect that Jeon is behind pro-Yoon protesters' violent riot at the Seoul Western District Court on Jan. 19, which was prompted by the court's decision to extend Yoon's detention over his Dec. 3 declaration of martial law.
On Tuesday, police raided Sarang Jeil Church, which Jeon leads, and other facilities related to him to secure evidence. Police are expected to call in Jeon and others for questioning soon after analyzing the seized materials.
