South Korea to Launch Strategy for Research and Development Ecosystem

Seoul: South Korea will unveil a strategy to foster a researcher-friendly ecosystem for research and development (R and D) activities in advanced technologies next month, the science ministry said Wednesday. Science Minister Bae Kyung-hoon met with researchers at Seoul National University on the day to discuss ways to improve the country's R and D ecosystem ahead of the announcement of the blueprint, according to the Ministry of Science and ICT.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Minister Bae emphasized the importance of creating an R and D ecosystem characterized by continuous innovation, supported by nationwide reforms driven by artificial intelligence and cutting-edge technologies. The government aims to stimulate authentic growth powered by science and technology with the release of this innovative plan in September, which will enable universities, state-funded research institutes, and businesses to concentrate on their core roles.

During the meeting, researchers urged the government to enhance predictability in its R and D policies and reduce regulations to alleviate administrative burdens on researchers. They also suggested that the government improve its evaluation system for state-funded projects and make efforts to commercialize their achievements.
