Incheon: A man in his 60s has been indicted on charges of murder and attempted murder after allegedly shooting his son to death and trying to kill his daughter-in-law and two grandchildren, prosecutors announced. The incident occurred during a birthday party at his son's home in Incheon on July 20.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the suspect was arrested last month and is also accused of attempting to murder his daughter-in-law, two grandchildren, and a foreign private tutor who was at the party. Further investigation at the suspect's home in Seoul's Dobong district revealed multiple explosive devices intended to detonate the following day.
The Incheon District Prosecutors Office has charged the man with murder, attempted murder, violation of the firearms control law, and attempted arson. Prosecutors allege that the suspect meticulously planned the crimes, beginning in August of the previous year. His preparations reportedly included watching related YouTube videos and purchasing gun parts.
As a motive, prosecutors identified the suspect's paranoia, believing that his ex-wife and son were isolating him despite providing him with long-term economic support.
