Icheon: The head of SK hynix Inc., South Korea's second-largest chipmaker, has credited SK Group's significant investments and strategic vision for the company's success in dominating the high bandwidth memory (HBM) market. Kwak Noh-jung, the chief executive officer of SK hynix, emphasized this achievement at an annual business forum held in Icheon, which is located approximately 50 kilometers southeast of Seoul. He highlighted the group's Super Excellent Level (SUPEX) management philosophy as a key factor in their accomplishments.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Kwak remarked that the company was on the brink of collapse before SK Group's intervention. The acquisition of the chipmaker, formerly known as Hynix Semiconductor Inc., by SK Group in 2012 paved the way for SK hynix to develop the world's first HBM and secure a leading position in the global DRAM market. Kwak noted that this success was largely due to the backing of SK Group.
Kwak also addressed the challenges posed by the rapidly advancing artificial intelligence era, acknowledging a sense of apprehension about the changes it brings. Nevertheless, he expressed confidence in SK hynix's ability to adapt and innovate continuously, driven by the SUPEX philosophy, to overcome any new challenges that may arise.
During the forum, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, along with around 250 officials from the group's affiliates, participated in the opening ceremony of the three-day event. Chey is scheduled to deliver a speech on Wednesday, outlining the group's business vision for the future.
