N. Korea’s Kim Il Sung University Resumes Symposium with China and Russia Only

Pyongyang: Kim Il Sung University, North Korea's premier educational institution named after the country's founding leader, has resumed its international academic symposium, attended exclusively by participants from China and Russia, as reported by state media on Thursday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the symposium included "officials, faculty members, researchers, as well as scholars from Russia and China's education, science research, and cultural exchange institutes." The event, held the day before, was organized into three main disciplines-socio-politics, economy, and humanities-under the theme "Autonomy, Equality and Regional Development," and saw the submission of numerous theses.

The Kim Il Sung University symposium first gained media attention in 2011 and was held annually until 2018. The recent report suggests the university has reinstated the event after a seven-year hiatus. In previous years, the symposium attracted participants from a wider range of countries, including the United States, France, Spain, and Australia. However, this year's event was limited to China and Russia, reflecting North Korea's current international alignments.
