Seoul: Renault Korea Motors, the South Korean division of Renault S.A., reported a significant 23.6 percent decrease in sales for August compared to the previous year, primarily due to diminished international demand.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the company disclosed in a press release that they sold 6,437 vehicles last month, a drop from 8,451 units sold during the same period last year. Domestic sales showed a remarkable increase, nearly tripling to 3,868 units from 1,350, while exports experienced a sharp decline of 63.5 percent, falling to 2,589 units from 7,101.
A spokesperson for Renault Korea stated, "The company stopped production of the QM6 sport utility vehicle (SUV) in May, which affected monthly sales. Instead, shipments of the Grand Koleos SUV began in May following its domestic launch in September last year." The Grand Koleos SUV is currently being exported to 13 markets across Latin America and the Middle East, with plans to broaden its reach to African markets.
From January to August, Renault Korea's total sales saw an increase of 8.4 percent, reaching 60,735 units from 56,031 units in the previous year. During the same period, domestic sales more than doubled to 35,933 units from 14,032, while exports decreased by 40.9 percent to 24,802 units from 41,999.
Renault Korea's current product lineup includes the SM6 midsize sedan, Grand Koleos midsize SUV, Arcana SUV, and the Master minivan.
