Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung's approval rating increased for the second consecutive week, reaching 53.6 percent, a recent survey revealed.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the survey, which was commissioned by a local news outlet, indicated a 2.2 percentage point rise in positive assessment of Lee's performance from the previous week. Concurrently, the negative assessment dropped by 2.6 percentage points to 42.3 percent.
The improvement in Lee's approval rating followed a slight rebound last week after a period of decline linked to controversies surrounding his special pardons for political figures on Liberation Day and proposed changes to the tax code affecting stock investments. Realmeter cited Lee's diplomatic and economic achievements, including a recent summit with U.S. President Donald Trump, as factors contributing to the positive evaluation.
The survey was conducted on 2,537 adults from Monday to Friday last week and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.2 percentage points, with a confidence level of 95 percent.
In another survey by the same pollster, conducted on 1,006 individuals aged 18 and over on Thursday and Friday, the approval rating for the ruling Democratic Party increased by 0.9 percentage point to 46.7 percent. Support for the main opposition People Power Party also rose by 0.6 percentage point to 36.1 percent. This poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points, with a confidence level of 95 percent.
