Incheon: The Navy will organize a series of events to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the amphibious landing operation conducted by South Korean and U.S. forces during the Korean War, officials announced.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Incheon Landing Operation, led by U.S. Gen. Douglas MacArthur in September 1950, was a crucial maneuver that helped reverse the course of the war by driving back North Korean forces. The events are scheduled to take place in Incheon from September 12 to 15, aimed at paying tribute to the soldiers who participated in the operation.
On September 12, a significant event will involve veterans from various countries and approximately 300 civilians who will honor the war dead aboard a Navy amphibious assault ship. This ship will navigate the historical route used during the landing operation.
To recreate a part of the historic operation, the Navy will deploy several assets, including the LST-II landing ship, AW-159 naval helicopters, and KAAV amphibious assault vehicles. These reenactments are intended to honor the memory of those who played a role in this pivotal moment of the Korean War.
