Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his surprise on Wednesday over Chinese President Xi Jinping's decision not to mention the United States in his address marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. Trump emphasized the crucial role the U.S. played in achieving victory during the war.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Trump's comments came during a press conference with Polish President Karol Nawrocki at the White House. China commemorated the anniversary with a significant military parade, where Xi was joined by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and Russian President Vladimir Putin, highlighting their solidarity.
Trump remarked, "I was very surprised. I watched the speech last night. President Xi is a friend of mine," while seated next to the Polish leader. He noted that the U.S. deserved recognition in Xi's speech due to its substantial assistance to China during the war.
Despite his surprise, Trump described the parade as a "beautiful" and "impressive" event. He acknowledged understanding the motives behind the ceremony and mentioned that he was indeed watching.
Reiterating his positive relations with Xi, Kim, and Putin, Trump stated, "My relationship with all of them is very good. We're going to find out how good it is over the next week or two."
In a social media post, Trump raised the "big" question of whether Xi would acknowledge the "massive amount of support and blood" the U.S. provided China to ensure its freedom. He emphasized the sacrifices made by Americans in China's fight for victory and glory, hoping they would be honored and remembered for their bravery and sacrifice.
