Seoul: The financial regulator announced on Thursday that policy lenders will allocate 10 trillion won (US$7.2 billion) to financially support small merchants facing economic challenges and rising debt burdens. This move aims to alleviate the financial pressures on these small businesses significantly.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Financial Services Commission (FSC) has indicated that commercial lenders will participate in this initiative by offering an additional 3.3 trillion won in financial aid. The combined efforts of policy and commercial lenders are expected to ease the financial burdens that many small merchants are currently experiencing.
Recent data shows a recovery in private spending, aided by decreased political instability, while exports have exceeded expectations due to strong semiconductor shipments. Despite these positive trends, numerous small-sized merchants continue to face declining sales and increasing debt, as highlighted by the FSC.
In an effort to stimulate the local economy, the government initiated its first round of cash handouts in July, distributing 150,000 won to all citizens. A second round is planned, with an additional 100,000 won to be distributed to the bottom 90 percent of income earners.
