Seoul: SK Telecom Co., South Korea's largest mobile carrier, has announced a strategic partnership involving a 2.2 billion yen (US$14.8 million) investment in TimeTree, a well-known Japanese schedule-sharing app operator. This collaboration aims to develop artificial intelligence (AI) agent services.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the agreement was signed in Tokyo on Friday. SK Telecom plans to broaden its AI agent service ecosystem and enhance its footprint in the Japanese AI market through this partnership. The company intends to integrate its AI agent technology and expertise into TimeTree, marking the first application of its technology outside of South Korea.
SK Telecom has also expressed its ambition to use Japan as a regional hub for expanding its global AI agent service. TimeTree, founded in 2014, is a communication and calendar-sharing app with a user base of 67 million worldwide.
Ryu Young-sang, Chief Executive Officer of SK Telecom, emphasized the significance of the collaboration, stating that it represents a vital opportunity for the company to generate new value in the global market through AI agent technology. He added that SK Telecom aims to lead the expansion of the AI agent service ecosystem in both South Korea and Japan.
