Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung's approval rating has risen for the third consecutive week, reaching 56 percent, as a result of favorable evaluations of his policies related to public welfare, a recent survey revealed on Monday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee's positive assessment increased by 2.4 percentage points from the previous week, while negative opinions decreased by 3.1 percentage points to 39.2 percent.
The pollster credited the rise in approval to growing support among centrist voters, following President Lee's policy initiatives addressing citizens' livelihoods. These initiatives include declaring the drought-affected east coast city of Gangneung a state of national disaster and implementing stricter measures against wage arrears.
This upward trend in Lee's approval ratings marks a recovery after a two-week decline, which was triggered by controversies surrounding his special pardons for political figures on Liberation Day and proposed changes to tax codes related to stock investment.
The survey, conducted from Monday to Friday last week, involved 2,519 adults and comes with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.2 percentage points, and a confidence rate of 95 percent.
In a separate survey by the same pollster conducted on Thursday and Friday with 1,005 individuals aged 18 and over, the approval rating for the ruling Democratic Party decreased by 2.1 percentage points to 44.6 percent. Meanwhile, support for the main opposition People Power Party saw a marginal increase of 0.1 percentage point, reaching 36.2 percent. This poll carries a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points, with a confidence rate of 95 percent.
