Seoul: The son of Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong will enlist as a naval officer candidate next week, the company said Wednesday. Lee Jee-ho has renounced his U.S. citizenship to fulfill the mandatory duty starting Monday, which will run for 39 months, Samsung Electronics said in a brief text message sent to reporters.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the young Lee, born in the United States in 2000, had been holding dual citizenship. The only son of Lee is set to be commissioned into the Navy as an ensign on Dec. 1.
