SK hynix Begins Supply of Advanced NAND Solution for AI-Driven Smartphones

Seoul: SK hynix Inc. announced that it has commenced the supply of its latest NAND solution, designed to cater to the increasing demand from modern smartphones equipped with on-device artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the South Korean chipmaker revealed that the new product, named ZUFS 4.1, enhances operating system speed and data management efficiency through its innovative zone storage technology. This technology organizes data into different zones based on usage and characteristics, thus optimizing performance.

The company explained that, in contrast to traditional UFS systems that overwrite existing data with new data, ZUFS 4.1 employs a sequential data writing method. This approach has proven to reduce AI application launch times by 47 percent, contributing to its effectiveness in the mobile environment where on-device AI and extensive data processing are crucial.

NAND flash memory, commonly utilized in smartphones and laptops, distinguishes itself from mobile dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) by retaining data even without power. SK hynix emphasized the importance of this feature in meeting the evolving needs of mobile devices.

Kim Ju-seon, head of AI infrastructure development at SK hynix, stated, "We will continue to supply NAND solutions that meet customer needs in a timely manner, while strengthening partnerships with global companies to strengthen our competitive edge in the AI memory sector."
