Incheon: Police were set to stage counterterrorism drills against drone and chemical threats Thursday ahead of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit set for next month.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the drills were scheduled to take place in Incheon, just west of Seoul, where ministerial-level APEC meetings will occur next month, mobilizing around 200 personnel, as stated by the National Police Agency. The chief of the Incheon Metropolitan Police will take on-site command of the drills, which will be joined by fire authorities and a military chemical, biological, and radiological defense unit, among other relevant agencies.
The drills will proceed under a scenario of an attempted terror attack utilizing drones against vehicles carrying delegations to the APEC meeting, with officials focusing on evacuation and rescue procedures. South Korea will host the APEC summit in the southeastern city of Gyeongju between late October and early November.
