Seoul: South Korea's state arms procurement agency has newly joined an international association on naval safety, a move likely to help boost exports of the country's warships, officials said Monday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the International Naval Safety Association, founded in 2008, aims to promote naval safety and environmental protection, with the goal of jointly developing safety standards for the design and assurance of naval shipping.
The joining of the association will help Korean-made warships gain trust globally, thus helping enhance their export competitiveness in the future, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) said.
South Korea has made various efforts to step up the safety of its warships by strengthening quality checks and test operations, DAPA said, adding it plans to contribute to devising a global standard for naval safety management.
