Seoul: The KOSPI 200, a key stock index in South Korea, experienced a general decline as Friday's closing prices revealed losses for several major companies listed on the Korea Stock Exchange. Notable decreases were observed in various sectors, impacting the overall market sentiment.
According to Yonhap News Agency, among the significant decliners, SK hynix recorded a substantial drop, closing at 336,500 KRW, down by 20,000 KRW. Hyundai Motor also saw a decrease, ending the trading session at 214,500 KRW with a loss of 2,500 KRW. Other notable companies such as KCC and Nongshim experienced decreases of 6,000 KRW and 7,000 KRW, respectively.
In the steel sector, POSCO International and SeAH Steel Holdings both reported losses, with closing prices of 48,850 KRW and 156,000 KRW, respectively. The chemical industry also faced setbacks, as illustrated by LOTTE Fine Chem's decline to 47,000 KRW and Taekwang Industrial's significant drop of 16,000 KRW, settling at 850,000 KRW.
While the majority of companies saw declines, there were some exceptions. Samyang Food and Samsung Fire and Marine Insurance managed to report gains, closing at 1,466,000 KRW and 451,000 KRW, respectively. These positive performances, however, were not enough to offset the overall downward trend observed in the market.
The day's trading highlighted the challenges faced by the South Korean stock market, with widespread declines across multiple industries. Investors and analysts will continue to monitor market conditions closely as they assess the implications of these movements on future trading sessions.
