Daejeon: Interior Minister Yun Ho-jung on Monday called for speedy efforts to restore the government's online services hindered by last month's data center fire at the National Information Resources Service (NIRS), citing progress in the resumption of power supply to the agency's computer rooms.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the minister emphasized the importance of a swift recovery, stating, "The government will pursue a swift and successful recovery (for the NIRS) under the three principles of safety, security, and trust," during a meeting of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters.
Yun highlighted the need to expedite the recovery process, noting that the power supply to Computer Room 8, adjacent to the fire's origin in Computer Room 7-1, has been restored. The fire, which occurred on September 26, impacted the main data center in Daejeon, consisting of nine computer rooms spanning the second through fifth floors.
The blaze started in Computer Room 7-1 on the fifth floor, with adjacent Computer Rooms 7 and 8 experiencing damage from dust and smoke. Computer Room 8, which sustained relatively minor damage, had its power restored following dust removal.
According to the central disaster headquarters, as of 9 a.m. Monday, 260 out of 709 online administrative services affected by the fire had been restored, achieving a restoration rate of 36.7 percent. Furthermore, 30 out of 40 first-class online systems had returned to normal, resulting in a 75 percent restoration rate.
