Seoul: The Korean romantic fantasy series "Genie, Make a Wish" has clinched the top spot on Netflix's weekly non-English series chart, as reported by the streaming giant. The series, which initially debuted at No. 5, surged to the top position, achieving 8 million views in the week ending on October 12.
According to Yonhap News Agency, "Genie, Make a Wish" premiered on October 3 and consists of 12 episodes. The series chronicles the life of Ga-young, portrayed by Bae Suzy, who grapples with an antisocial personality disorder. Her mundane existence is disrupted when she inadvertently awakens a genie, played by Kim Woo-bin, who has been dormant for a millennium in a desert in Dubai. In exchange for his freedom, the genie offers to grant Ga-young three wishes.
The series is crafted by renowned writer Kim Eun-sook, celebrated for her successful TV series, including "Secret Garden," "Heirs," "Descendants of the Sun," and "Guardian: The Lonely and Great God." Ahn Gil-ho, recognized for his work on "The Glory," took on the role of director after Lee Byeong-heon, known for projects like "Extreme Job" and the upcoming "Chicken Nugget," departed from the project.
