Seoul: Two South Korean nationals detained in a crackdown on job scams in Cambodia have returned home this week, police reported Wednesday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, they were among 63 South Koreans held at Cambodia's immigration offices following a crackdown on job scams linked to a series of disappearances and abuse cases involving Koreans, including one fatality. Initially, police announced that four South Korean suspects had returned home, but a subsequent notice confirmed that only two had returned.
The repatriation occurred on a flight operated by a national flag carrier on Tuesday, as stated by the police. Some of the individuals had been placed on the Interpol Red Notice wanted list after the police obtained warrants for their detention. By law, up to two criminal suspects are permitted to board a national flag carrier, with two such flights operating daily between South Korea and Cambodia.
The government is reportedly considering the option of bringing all detainees home on a single charter flight, particularly since each suspect is required to be escorted by two police officers. Police indicated on Tuesday their plan to repatriate all 63 detainees within one month.
