Daejeon: On the eve of his first postseason start in South Korea, Hanwha Eagles right-hander Ryan Weiss expressed his readiness to let his performance speak for itself. The Eagles are set to face the Samsung Lions in the second-round series of the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) postseason at Daejeon Hanwha Life Ballpark. Cody Ponce will take the mound for the Eagles on Friday night, with Weiss scheduled to pitch in Game 2 on Saturday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Weiss joined the Eagles midway through last season and posted a 5-5 record with a 3.73 ERA across 16 starts, securing a new contract for the 2025 season. In the current season, Weiss improved significantly, achieving a 16-5 record, a 2.87 ERA, and 207 strikeouts over 178 2/3 innings. However, his performance against the Samsung Lions showed some challenges, as he recorded a 2-3 record with a 4.05 ERA in 26 2/3 innings, conceding four home runs.
Weiss acknowledged the strength of the Lions, stating, "Samsung is a really good team. They've been a really good team all year." He emphasized his focus on the current game, adding, "I'm just focused on today's game, and then we'll worry about tomorrow's game after today."
As the No. 2 seed, the Eagles possess the home field advantage and are considered favorites by many to win the best-of-five series. Weiss refrained from predicting the series outcome, remarking, "We have a really good team, and I believe in our team."
