Seoul: A chartered flight carrying about 60 South Korean nationals detained in Cambodia over online scams is scheduled to depart for South Korea early Saturday, according to National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac. This development comes in response to ongoing concerns about crimes targeting South Koreans in Cambodia, especially following the torture and death of a Korean college student in the region.
According to Yonhap News Agency, South Korea has dispatched a joint response team to Cambodia to address these issues. The recent incidents have sparked public outrage, prompting swift action from South Korean authorities to ensure the safety of their citizens abroad.
In a related move, President Lee Jae Myung has ordered emergency measures to tackle the issue of fraudulent job offers in Cambodia. He has called for tighter monitoring and enhanced international cooperation to combat the rising trend of crimes targeting South Koreans in the Southeast Asian nation. Lee's directive aims to prevent South Koreans from being misled by deceitful job offers that lure them into scam centers run by organized crime groups, leading to detention and, in some cases, torture.
