According to Yonhap News Agency, Murayama, who passed away at 101, was renowned for the 1995 "Murayama Statement." In this landmark declaration, he expressed remorse for Japan's colonial rule and wartime aggression in Asia. President Lee commended Murayama's efforts towards reconciliation and co-prosperity with neighboring countries.
Lee further extended his tribute by sharing his message in Japanese, highlighting the deep respect and acknowledgment of Murayama's contributions to fostering peace in the region.
