Seoul: A military court on Tuesday decided to summon ousted former President Yoon Suk Yeol as a witness next month for the trial of a former military commander linked to Yoon’s botched martial law bid. The district military court in central Seoul made the decision during a hearing to call in Yoon to testify at the trial of Yeo In-hyung, former head of the Defense Counterintelligence Command, scheduled for Nov. 25.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Yeo is suspected of sending troops to the National Assembly, the National Election Commission, and other locations on the night of the martial law imposition on Dec. 3. Charges against him include perjury and violation of military secrets.
It remains unclear whether Yoon will comply with the summons. Since being placed under arrest in July, the former president has mostly ignored his trial sessions and summonses by special counsels investigating various allegations surrounding him and his wife, Kim Keon Hee.
