Seoul: Samsung SDI Co. has teamed up with the Korea Electrical Safety Corp. (KESCO) to bolster the safety of energy storage system (ESS) infrastructure in anticipation of rising demand for such equipment. This collaboration was announced by the company on Wednesday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the partnership was formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed on Monday. The agreement outlines joint efforts to develop safety management policies and improvement measures for both ESS and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems. Key areas of focus include the creation of accident prevention manuals and the establishment of coordinated emergency response systems. Additionally, the partnership aims to encourage users to voluntarily adopt fire suppression and remote monitoring systems.
Samsung SDI and KESCO intend to form a working-level task force to devise specific implementation plans and establish a framework for long-term cooperation. This initiative aligns with South Korea's anticipation of rapid growth in the ESS market, driven by the government's energy transition policy.
Choi Joo-sun, CEO of Samsung SDI, expressed that the agreement serves as an opportunity to extend the company's technological leadership while fulfilling broader social responsibilities. KESCO President Nam Hwa-young emphasized that ensuring ESS safety is crucial for public safety and national energy security. He noted that the partnership would contribute to building a trusted safety network throughout the entire ESS life cycle, fostering a reliable industry ecosystem.
