Seoul: LG Electronics Inc. announced on Thursday its decision to join the global automotive software marketplace SDVerse, marking a strategic move to position itself as a leader in the emerging software-defined vehicle (SDV) market by expanding partnerships with key industry stakeholders.
According to Yonhap News Agency, SDVerse is a business-to-business (B2B) open platform created for the buying and selling of automotive software. This platform, developed collaboratively by General Motors Co., Magna International Inc., and Wipro Ltd., serves as a nexus for global carmakers, auto parts suppliers, and software developers. It aims to facilitate a matchmaking marketplace for buyers and sellers of embedded automotive software through an independent, industry-driven sourcing and procurement process.
By joining SDVerse, LG Electronics intends to enhance its competitiveness in the automotive components business and fortify its connections within the global automotive software ecosystem. The company plans to feature various mobility solutions on the platform, including LG Alphaware, its proprietary software suite for SDVs.
Once primarily recognized for its home appliances, LG Electronics has been striving to diversify its business portfolio and transition into a future-oriented company since its exit from the smartphone market in 2021.
