Goyang: South Korean defense firm Hanwha Aerospace Co. announced that it has entered into an agreement with GE Aerospace Inc. to procure aircraft engine components needed for the production of locally manufactured trainer jets, fighter jets, and helicopters.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Hanwha Aerospace will purchase 88 T700 engine components intended for use in the KUH-1 Surion helicopter and 40 F404 engine parts for the T-50 and TA-50 trainer jets as well as the FA-50 fighter jet. The parts will be assembled at Hanwha Aerospace's facility and subsequently delivered to Korea Aerospace Industries Ltd. for installation.
GE Aerospace has historically supplied T700 and F404 engines for these South Korean aircraft models. The newly signed agreement highlights the enduring partnership between GE Aerospace and Hanwha Aerospace, with both companies committed to enhancing their collaboration within the aircraft engine sector, stated Rita Flaherty, vice president of sales and business development for GE Aerospace Defense and Systems.
Kim Sun, leader of the aviation business division at Hanwha Aerospace, emphasized that the deepening cooperation between the two firms is anticipated to advance South Korea's aviation industry and bolster the competitiveness of its defense sector.
The agreement was finalized during the Seoul International Aerospace and Defense Exhibition (ADEX) 2025, held at the KINTEX exhibition hall in Goyang, which is located just northwest of Seoul.
