Seoul: Following the global success of “Physical: 100,” Netflix has announced a pan-Asia spinoff aimed at expanding the show’s reach beyond South Korea. During a press conference, producer Jang Ho-gi described the new season, titled “Physical: Asia,” as “the Olympics” on Netflix.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Jang emphasized the diversity and caliber of the contestants, stating, “Legendary contestants from eight countries are competing with their pride at stake, so look forward to their incredible performance.” The new season will feature contestants from South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Mongolia, Turkey, Indonesia, Australia, and the Philippines.
Jang highlighted the selection process, focusing on countries with a strong interest in sports and unique traditional sports. The show will include six contestants from each participating nation. Adding to the star-studded lineup, Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao will make an appearance, marking a significant addition to the show.
Jang recounted the casting process for Pacquiao, noting, “After contacting him several times, Pacquiao invited us to his house in the Philippines, where we saw him exercise and had meals together.” This global expansion follows the success of the first two seasons, which featured intense competitions among Korea’s fittest contestants.
The upcoming season will also feature notable participants such as Yushin Okami, Robert Whittaker, and Recep Kara. Team Korea will be led by Kim Dong-hyun and includes Yun Sung-bin and “Physical: 100 Season 2” winner Amotti.
