Korean Cuisine Takes Center Stage at APEC Summit in Gyeongju

Gyeongju: The government and local companies are set to highlight popular Korean food products during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) gathering in the southeastern city of Gyeongju this week. This initiative aims to enhance the global appeal of Korean cuisine, officials announced.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Rural Affairs will establish a K-food station near the APEC summit venue, the Gyeongju Hwabaek International Convention Center, starting Wednesday. This four-day event will introduce foreign visitors to Korean desserts such as "hotteok," a pancake filled with brown sugar, and traditional refreshments. The station will also feature 13 Korean food companies showcasing halal-certified products to tap into export opportunities.

In addition to the K-food station, major food companies like CJ Cheiljedang Corp. and Nongshim Co. will provide their internationally popular products and operate food trucks for APEC-related events. CJ plans to offer items from its bibigo brand, including instant rice cups, "tteokbokki," and dried seaweed snacks. Meanwhile, Nongshim will have a booth distributing its best-selling Shin Ramyun instant noodles, which feature characters from the animated film "KPop Demon Hunters."

Kyochon, a leading South Korean fried chicken brand, also intends to run a food truck offering its signature menu items. Agriculture Minister Song Mi-ryung described the APEC summit as an excellent opportunity to present Korea's culture and allure to the world, promising to deliver the "unforgettable taste of Korea" during the event.

The official APEC summit will take place on Friday and Saturday, accompanied by a series of side events throughout the week, such as the APEC CEO Summit and a future-tech forum.
