Gyeongju: The Presidential Security Service (PSS) announced that it has completed interagency drills in Gyeongju and Busan, aimed at ensuring the successful hosting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit and related bilateral meetings.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the PSS carried out the field training exercise from Saturday to Monday. Gyeongju, the primary venue for the APEC summit, and nearby Busan, where numerous world leaders are expected to stay, served as the focal points for the drills. The exercises were conducted in cooperation with the National Intelligence Service, the foreign ministry, the military, and the police to enhance coordination among the involved agencies.
On the initial day, the team focused on reviewing security measures pertaining to the movements of leaders from APEC member economies. This simulation included scenarios from the moment their flights entered South Korean airspace, continuing through airport arrivals and transportation to accommodations and the summit venue. Key aspects examined included vehicle routes, security perimeters, and emergency response procedures.
On the final day, the foreign ministry, along with other agencies, performed comprehensive checks of major event sites. These included the summit venue, Gyeongju Hwabaek International Convention Center, and the location for the welcome dinner.
PSS chief Hwang In-kwon stated, "Through this field training exercise, we have completed the final review of our readiness in all security and safety areas for the APEC summit," and pledged to uphold stringent security measures throughout the week.
