Gyeongju: South Korean business leaders on Friday vowed to enhance their competitiveness in the artificial intelligence (AI) industry as the country aims to become one of the global AI powerhouses. Leaders of South Korea's leading conglomerates, including Samsung, SK, and Hyundai, made such a pledge while meeting with President Lee Jae Myung at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit held in the southeastern city of Gyeongju, along with Nvidia Corp. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jensen Huang.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Samsung Electronics Co. Chairman Lee Jae-yong emphasized the company's commitment to making South Korea a leader in the global AI paradigm, in line with the president's vision. He stated that Samsung would expand cooperation with Nvidia in generative AI and other areas such as Omniverse, AI factories, robotics, and AI-RAN networks. Omniverse is Nvidia's virtual industrial platform.
SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won highlighted the company's ongoing collaboration with Nvidia and expressed intentions to enhance their AI capabilities through joint efforts. He also requested President Lee's support for startups to boost their contribution to the AI manufacturing sector.
Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung committed to taking a leading role in the physical AI sector, leveraging the company's mobility technology.
