Gyeongju: Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi revealed that she engaged in candid discussions with her South Korean and Chinese counterparts during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit held in Gyeongju.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Takaichi highlighted these discussions as one of her achievements at the regional gathering, where she met with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and Chinese President Xi Jinping. The summit also saw Japan being named as the host for the 2031 APEC summit, adding to the significance of the event for Japan.
During a press conference following the summit, Takaichi expressed the importance of having a platform to engage in discussions with leaders from neighboring nations. She emphasized the value of the opportunity to hold open dialogues with China and South Korea, which are crucial partners for Japan in the region.
When inquired about whether Japan and South Korea were treated fairly in their respective investment deals with the United States, Takaichi refrained from making comparisons. She stated that it would be inappropriate to compare the agreements uniformly, as each country faces different conditions. She also mentioned that the final details of the Japan-U.S. deal are yet to be announced.
