Gyeongju: The leaders of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) have successfully adopted a joint declaration at the conclusion of their two-day summit. The gathering focused on discussions surrounding growth and prosperity in the region.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Leaders' Gyeongju Declaration addresses APEC's principal agenda items, including trade, investment, digital innovation, and inclusive growth. The declaration is themed "Connectivity, Innovation, and Prosperity" and highlights the commitment of the 21-member economies to these issues.
Notably, the declaration acknowledges cultural and creative industries as a significant new growth driver for the Asia-Pacific region. It also underscores a shared commitment to cooperation on artificial intelligence (AI) and demographic changes, as highlighted by the presidential office.
In addition to the declaration, two separate documents were adopted by the leaders. These documents focus on an AI initiative and a strategy for responding to demographic changes, both of which are initiatives advocated by South Korea.
