N. Korea’s Kim Inaugurates Sixth Hydropower Plant in Kangwon Province

Kangwon province: North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has attended a ceremony to inaugurate a hydropower plant in Kangwon Province, the sixth to be built in the region amid the country's chronic electricity shortage, according to state media Friday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the ceremony to launch the Hoeyang Army-People Power Station in the southeastern province was held the previous day, with Kim in attendance, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said.

In his speech at the event, Kim highlighted the construction as a step towards solving the electricity problem, which is crucial for the economic development of the region and the improvement of the residents' material and cultural life.

Kim also emphasized the achievement of Kangwon Province, noting that despite having a smaller population and weaker industrial foundations compared to other provinces, it has successfully built these power stations through its own efforts.

The KCNA reported that the Hoeyang power plant is the final of six hydropower stations completed in Kangwon, joining those in Ichon, Munchon, Sepho, Phyonggang, and Kosong.
