Abductee Family Group Insists on Sending Propaganda Leaflets to North Korea.

Sokcho: A group representing families of individuals abducted by North Korea has announced its intention to proceed with sending propaganda leaflets across the border. Choi Seong-ryong, leader of the group, along with Park Sang-hak, head of Fighters for a Free North Korea, met at a coast guard station in Sokcho, located 151 kilometers northeast of Seoul, to discuss their strategy for dispatching anti-Pyongyang leaflets.

According to Yonhap News Agency, after consultations with coast guard officials, Choi and Park reaffirmed their commitment to distributing the leaflets from the sea. The coast guard is currently evaluating the legal and safety implications before granting permission for the maritime leaflet launch. Additionally, plans are underway to resume the deployment of large balloons carrying leaflets in Paju, a city situated near the western border.

The group intends to release 50,000 leaflets and newsletters featuring messages from abductees’ family members in both Paju and Goseong County. The exact
timing for these activities has yet to be determined. In response to similar actions by South Korean activists, North Korea has previously sent over 7,000 balloons across the border as a countermeasure against anti-Pyongyang propaganda.

Choi Seong-ryong and Park Sang-hak, key figures in the campaign, have emphasized their resolute stance on continuing the leaflet operations aimed at North Korea, underscoring the persistent tensions between the North and South regarding such propaganda activities.
