Acting Justice Minister Criticizes Protesters for Court Attack

Seoul: Acting Justice Minister Kim Seok-woo on Monday criticized a group of violent protesters who stormed a local court over the decision to formally arrest President Yoon Suk Yeol earlier this week. Kim addressed the issue during a meeting of the National Assembly’s Legislation and Judiciary Committee, describing the incident as a “grave matter that undermines the foundation of the rule of law and the judicial system.”

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim noted that the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office has been instructed to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. He emphasized that the authorities are expected to “clarify the facts,” given the seriousness of the situation. The minister refrained from making a definitive legal assessment when asked if the protest could be considered an “act of insurrection,” stating that such a determination would require further review.

The protest occurred from Saturday to early Sunday, leading to the arrest of individuals who broke into the Seoul Western District Court. They were reportedly angered by the court’s decision to formally arrest President Yoon for his failed martial law attempt.
