SEOUL: Acting President Choi Sang-mok has directed the government to expedite the distribution of emergency living expenses to the families affected by the devastating plane crash that resulted in 179 fatalities.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Choi's directive follows the catastrophic incident involving a Jeju Air plane, which crash-landed and exploded at an airport in Muan County. The tragic event, which occurred on Sunday, left only two survivors out of the 181 people aboard. In response to the tragedy, the government has initiated several support measures for the bereaved families, including compensating those who have taken personal leave to recover the bodies of their loved ones.
The government is also planning to collaborate with local authorities to ensure that emergency living expenses are disbursed swiftly to families experiencing financial hardships during this difficult period. Choi emphasized the government's commitment to ongoing support for the victims' families, stating, "We will continue to support the bereaved families even after the funeral procedures are completed and will spare no effort to provide the necessary aid," during a disaster control meeting held in Seoul.
In addition to financial aid, the government has announced that families of the victims will have access to consultations on deferring tax payments and may benefit from local tax reductions, offering further relief during this challenging time.
