Acting President Han and Alaska Governor Discuss Expanding Energy Cooperation

Seoul: Acting President Han Duck-soo held a significant meeting with Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy, where they explored avenues to enhance cooperation in the energy sector and other fields, according to Han's office. This meeting occurred against the backdrop of the United States' interest in involving South Korea in its stalled $44 billion liquefied natural gas (LNG) pipeline project. The project was previously highlighted by U.S. President Donald Trump, who encouraged participation from South Korea and other Asian countries.

According to Yonhap News Agency, South Korea stands as Alaska's largest trading partner, a fact underscored by Han, who expressed optimism for continued economic collaboration, particularly in energy. Han conveyed his hope in a statement, emphasizing that the bilateral alliance could continue to grow, especially in areas like shipbuilding, under the new U.S. administration.

Governor Dunleavy expressed optimism that the visit would foster productive discussions, particularly focusing on the development of energy cooperation, including Alaska's LNG project.
