Seoul: The agriculture ministry announced Wednesday that it convened a meeting with relevant government agencies and retail companies to explore strategies for stabilizing the supply of agricultural and livestock products.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the meeting was prompted by rising concerns that recent heat waves and heavy rains could disrupt the production and supply of agro-livestock products, potentially driving up food prices. The Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Rural Affairs highlighted that items such as rice, cabbage, spinach, local premium "hanwoo" beef, and pork might experience price increases.
In response to these challenges, the ministry revealed plans to support discount events at local retailers and to release government produce stockpiles, including cabbages, to help stabilize supply. The ministry emphasized their commitment to managing the supply chain effectively, stating, "Even though we face unfavorable weather conditions, we will strengthen our management of the supply chain to prevent drastic changes in the supply situation."
